*Our stay was in partnership with Blue Flamingo Resort. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
If Key West has been on your travel list, take this as your sign to book the trip! Gavin and I took a little couples getaway to Key West a couple weeks ago, and I completely fell in love with this colorful, laid-back little island.
From exploring Duval Street and watching the sunset to eating our way around the island, and finding the cutest resort to call home, we packed so much into our trip. If you’re planning a trip to Key West, here’s my guide to where we stayed, where we ate, and the things I definitely recommend adding to your itinerary.
Where We Stayed: Blue Flamingo Resort
One of my favorite parts of our entire trip was our stay at Blue Flamingo Resort.
The room was SO cute and had the most fun Key West-inspired decor. Everything felt colorful, tropical, and playful, which was exactly the vibe I wanted for our trip.
But the real highlight of the resort is the backyard. The resort’s backyard is basically an entire day of fun in itself. There are two pools, two bars—Rum Row and Toasted Coconut—cabana rentals, live music, DJs, karaoke, and lawn games. You could honestly spend the entire day here without ever needing to leave.
And one of my favorite things about Blue Flamingo is that you don’t even have to be a hotel guest to enjoy the backyard! They offer day passes, so you can come spend the day swimming, relaxing by the pool, playing lawn games, listening to music, and grabbing a drink.
It’s such a fun option if you’re visiting Key West and want a place to spend a pool day without necessarily booking a hotel room there.

Take Advantage of the Free Shuttle
Another huge perk of staying at Blue Flamingo was the free shuttle service. The shuttle will pick you up at the resort and drop you off near Duval Street, and then you can arrange to have it take you back to the hotel.
This made getting around so much easier and meant we didn’t have to worry about parking when we wanted to head downtown for dinner, drinks, or exploring.
Where To Eat in Key West

- Latitude’s Sunset Key (dinner with a view)
- Caroline’s Cafe

- Perla (for lunch)

Things to Do in Key West
Spend a Day on the Water
If you have the opportunity to do a boat day in Key West, DO IT.
Getting out on the water is one of the best ways to experience the Keys. Whether you want to snorkel, fish, look for dolphins, or simply spend the day cruising around and enjoying the sunshine, a boat day is such a fun couples activity.
Explore Duval Street
You can’t visit Key West without spending some time on Duval Street.
Walk around, pop into the shops and bars, listen to live music, grab a drink, and just enjoy the energy of Key West.
One of our favorite ways to experience it was simply wandering around without a strict itinerary.
‘

Go Bar Hopping
Duval Street is perfect for a little bar hopping. There are so many places within walking distance that you can easily make an afternoon or evening out of it.

Rent Bikes & Explore
One of my favorite recommendations for Key West is to rent bikes and explore the island.
It’s such a fun way to get around, and you can stop whenever you see something interesting. Plus, you’re not constantly worrying about finding a parking spot.
Get Key Lime Pie at Kermit’s
You can’t come to Key West and not have key lime pie!
Make a stop at Kermit’s Key West Key Lime Shoppe for a slice—or, let’s be honest, you may want more than one. It was my first time trying Key Lime Pie and it was delicious! I ended up going back for more the next night we went down to Duval Street.

Watch the Sunset at Mallory Square
Put Mallory Square at sunset on your itinerary.
It’s one of those quintessential Key West experiences. Grab a drink, find a spot to watch the sunset, and take in all the entertainment happening around you.
Visit the Key West Lighthouse
Another iconic Key West stop is the Key West Lighthouse.
If you’re up for a little climb, head to the top for beautiful views of the island.
Southernmost Point
Of course, you have to make a stop at the Southernmost Point!
It’s one of those classic Key West photo opportunities that you can’t skip.
This trip was such a fun reminder of how nice it is to get away with your spouse and just explore somewhere together.
Key West has the perfect mix of beautiful water, amazing food, nightlife, live music, shopping, history, and laid-back island vibes. You can make your trip as relaxing or as adventurous as you want.
And if you’re looking for somewhere fun to stay, I can’t say enough good things about our experience at Blue Flamingo Resort. The colorful rooms, incredible backyard, pools, bars, entertainment, and convenient shuttle made it such a fun home base for our trip.

If you’re planning a Key West getaway, save this guide for later and add these spots to your itinerary!
